trusting your timing
One of the hardest parts of being a working artist is the fear of missing out—on clients, on projects, on “the big break.” But the truth is, you can’t be everywhere all the time. And that’s okay.
Whether you’re traveling, resting, or simply taking a much-needed break, you might have to pass up opportunities. It can feel scary in the moment, but here’s what I’ve learned: the right opportunities won’t pass you by. What’s meant for you will find its way to you, and often at the exact time you’re most ready for it.
I was reminded of this recently while on my two-week solo trip to Greece. It was my first real vacation in four years since going full-time as a makeup artist, and for the first time, I completely unplugged from work. Honestly, it wasn’t easy. Part of me struggled when I saw inquiries coming in, knowing I couldn’t take them because I was literally on the other side of the world. But I had to keep reminding myself: this rest was long overdue, and deeply necessary.
The amazing thing is, those clients now know who I am. If I’m meant to work with them, the opportunity will circle back. What mattered most was giving myself permission to rest—because it’s what allows me to show up as the best version of myself: a stronger artist, a better friend, a more present partner, and a more grounded me.
Taking care of yourself doesn’t close doors—it makes space for the right ones to open. So if you find yourself worried about passing something up, trust the timing. What’s meant for you won’t miss you—and you’ll be ready to receive it when it does.
Wellness Tip: Give yourself permission to truly unplug—whether it’s for a two-week vacation or even just one quiet day off. Rest isn’t a luxury—it’s strategy. Take the break, the work will still be there.
