september = back to school energy

Oct 21, 2025

The world always seems to pick back up in September. Vacations wind down, kids head back to school, and suddenly the calendar fills with events and opportunities. For artists, September carries that same back-to-school energy—a reset button for our work and routines.

I’ve always loved that feeling of starting a new school year. Fresh pens and notebooks, a new backpack, new clothes—it always felt like a chance to reinvent myself and begin again. Now, I treat September in my career the same way. It’s the perfect time to refresh my kit by removing products I no longer use and adding new ones that inspire me. I like to invest in a few new fall wardrobe staples that are comfortable yet professional, because when I feel good in what I’m wearing, I show up with more confidence.

September also marks one of the busiest times of year in our industry—wedding season is still in full swing, New York Fashion Week takes over, and whether you’re backstage at the shows or glamming clients who are attending them, there’s no shortage of work. With that momentum, I take time to set intentional goals for the final stretch of the year. I ask myself: What clients do I want to work with? How much money do I want to make? What steps can I take now to set myself up for success in the new year?

But while I’m looking ahead, I also carve out space to reflect on the year so far. It’s easy to forget the things we’ve accomplished in the rush of a busy season, so I like to revisit the goals I set last year and celebrate what I’ve achieved—both big and small. I also check in with myself personally: How did I handle stress? Did I care for myself while working long hours? Because I know that when I prioritize my own well-being, I show up as a stronger artist for my clients.

September feels like a fresh start—a chance to refocus, reset, and remind ourselves of both how far we’ve come and where we’re headed. Here’s to finishing the year with intention, energy, and creativity.

WELLNESS TIP:

As the weather cools down and cold season kicks in, it’s a great time to give your immune system extra support. Two powerhouse supplements I recommend are Vitamin D, since we get less sun exposure in the fall and winter, and Zinc, which helps your body fight off infections and recover faster. Together, they’re simple but effective boosts to keep you feeling strong through the season.

your holiday szn is yours
The holidays come with so many expectations — slow down, be cozy, spend time with family, take time off, be present… meanwhile in our industry, November/December can also be one of the busiest times of the year. It’s a weird mix of pressure, joy, chaos, and comparison. But here’s the truth I want you to remember:Your holiday season doesn’t have to look like anybody else’s. If you feel recharged...
my just-in-case kit
Every artist knows — no matter how prepared you are, something always comes up on the job. A lash lifts, a zipper breaks, a client gets a headache, someone spills coffee down their shirt right before photos. That’s where your emergency kit comes in — the unsung hero tucked inside your main kit that saves the day (and your sanity). I always say: the products in your kit make you a great artist, ...
your kit speaks first
Before a client sees your work, they see your setup. How you arrive, how you unpack, how you move — it all communicates who you are as an artist long before the makeup ever touches their face. A professional kit isn’t just about products — it’s about presence.Clean. Curated. Intentional. When a client watches you work with ease and organization, they feel safe in your hands.
